Where the Honda Clarity EV failed, the new 2024 Honda Prologue should succeed. This new Honda EV delivers a winning formula for the brand.
Will Honda continue to take a back seat to other automakers in terms of alternative fuel vehicles? The brand could stand out and stop being overlooked once the new Prologue hits the market. This new Honda EV has a lot more going for it than the Clarity ever did, making it a great option as the new model year begins. It’s time for a Honda EV to rise from the ashes, and this new SUV could be the resurrection of this part of Honda’s portfolio.
What is the winning formula?
When the Clarity EV arrived, it was built in a small sedan platform, offered funky styling (but not in a good way like the Kia Soul), and only 89 miles of driving range. The new Prologue does everything better and differently. This new Honda EV is an SUV (an excellent starting point), it rides on GM’s scalable Ultium platform, and it should have upwards of 300 miles of driving range. These qualities are more than enough to bring the Prologue to the front of the line, worthy of your attention.
What to expect from the Prologue
Is the new Honda Prologue large enough for a family to enjoy? This new EV is 192 inches long, which places it above the CR-V and Passport in terms of size in the Honda lineup. The wheelbase measures 121.8 inches, which ensures passengers have plenty of space in the cabin to stretch out and enjoy the ride. This new EV is wider than it is tall, which gives it a bit of a lower feeling, even though it stands plenty tall off the ground. The wheel wells are large enough to handle the 21-inch wheels of the top trim, giving you an idea of how tall it stands off the ground.
A handsome Honda style with minimal interruptions
The new Prologue has smooth, large exterior surfaces with short overhangs and very few interruptions in the eyeline across any area of this SUV. This minimalist style provides the handsome and elegant look that you might find in a luxury vehicle from Audi. Instead of going over the top with styling, the Honda team did the Prologue a favor by using smart and smooth styling that makes it easy to see how this SUV will be well-received by many drivers.
The interior continues the simplicity of style
Going inside, you’ll find a pleasant, simple mix of materials that make this cabin look great. The styling feels much more upscale than you might expect, with impressive lines and simple colors. The shifter is mounted on the steering column, offering a blast from the past, and the center console brings versatile space with large cupholders and cubbies that can carry the small stuff you want to take out on the road in your vehicle. The dashboard features an attractive screen positioned high enough to keep your eyes on the road while seeing the menus.
Power to drive your Honda SUV
This new Honda electric SUV is offered as either a single-motor FWD model or a dual-motor AWD version. The dual-motor model generates 288 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque. This should be the top of the power range, giving drivers looking for a little more juice to have a great ride. Honda hasn’t released power figures for the single-motor powertrain yet.
Although we don’t have power figures yet, the front-drive Prologue is expected to achieve up to 300 miles of driving range. The Ultium battery pack measures 85-kWh, giving this system the desired driving range. Using a DC Fast-Charger, the new Prologue is expected to add up to 65 miles of range every ten minutes, which is a bit slower than expected of most new EVs.
Three trims to get us started
The starting lineup of this new Honda EV will include three trims: EX, Touring, and Elite. Eventually, Honda could add an off-road TrailSport version or a Sport model with improved styling elements. The base model comes with a full slate of features, including heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone climate controls, and wireless smartphone charging.
Moving to the Touring model it adds leather upholstery, memory seat settings, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a 12-speaker Bose sound system. Going for the top Elite trim brings perforated leather, more interior color options, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and a head-up display.
Will the new 2024 Honda Prologue be the new electric SUV you love to drive every day?
