The latest addition to the Toyota SUV lineup will be heading to your local Toyota dealer in the coming months, and it’s worth a look.
If you like the tried-and-true Toyota Highlander but it feels a little cramped when you fill it up, you’ll love the new Grand Highlander. This stretched-out version of the Highlander has lots of extra space for its passengers in the third row and more cargo space.
What Is the Hybrid Max?
The new Grand Highlander is not only roomier than the regular Highlander, it also offers the new Hybrid Max powertrain. The Hybrid Max sits at the top of the lineup and is completely different from the regular hybrid setup. It combines the power from a four-cylinder turbo gas engine, an electric motor up front between the engine and transmission, and another electric motor in the rear. These all work together to generate 362 horsepower and get 400 pound-feet of torque. Instead of the eight–speed automatic transmission for the rest of the powertrains, it uses a six-speed.
What Does the Rest of the Engine Lineup Look Like?
The Hybrid Max is just one of the powertrains you can get under the hood of the new Toyota Grand Highlander. It’s also available with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine with 265. The standard hybrid setup uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors that get 243 horsepower. While these are both good choices, if you like the feeling of being the first one off the line, the Grand Highlander Hybrid Max will get to 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds. It takes the standard hybrid about seven seconds to get there.
What Exactly Is the Grand Highlander?
The Grand Highlander still fits into the mid-size SUV category, but the third row has enough legroom that full-size adults will fit comfortably back there. This SUV steps up its convenience game with HVAC controls for the third-row passengers, a power rear liftgate, heated front seats, and enough USB ports throughout the cabin that everyone can plug in.
Cargo space is another high point in this new Highlander. If you fold down the third row, you’ll have over 97 cubic feet of cargo space to work with. But, even if you have people in the third row, you can fit everyone’s luggage back there if you’re headed on a trip.
It Must Have the Latest Tech
When you see the Grand Highlander at a Toyota dealer, it will be no surprise that it’s loaded with tech features. Every trim will have a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, and it will use Toyota’s latest software. Additional standard features will include wireless charging and a 7-inch digital display screen for the lower trims. The higher-end Limited and Platinum get a 12.3-inch driver information display, and they get a bumped-up JBL stereo with 11 speakers. As
