Both the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E sport unique body styles that have propelled these models to be some of the most popular electric SUVs on today’s roadways. But which model offers the features you need in your perfect SUV? Read on to discover what these models have to offer and which might be a good fit for your lifestyle.
Electrifying the World of SUVs
While Hyundai prefers to classify the Ioniq 5 as an SUV, at first glance, it looks more like a hatchback than your typical SUV. Geometric lines, sharp and smooth edges, and a relatively sleek and modern grill define the electric aesthetic of the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Meanwhile, the Ford Mustang Mach-E takes a whole new approach to the electrified Mustang. The Mach-E introduces an entirely new body style that transforms the traditional Mustang from your typical muscle car to a full-blown SUV. Unlike the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Mustang Mach-E features a curvier body design that’s stylish in its own right.
While they have overlapping features, the two models are distinctly unique and stand out in a crowd. One thing is certain; both models have quickly gained popularity with drivers, even those who would not have considered an electric SUV. It’s this popularity that’s allowed the Hyundai Ioniq 5 to win MotorTrend’s coveted “SUV of the Year” award.
Space and Comfort
Both models feature a spacious cabin; however, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 touts more legroom for rear passengers. Drivers also have plenty more seat adjustments in the Ioniq 5 than found in the Mach-E.

Additionally, Hyundai features standard heated front-row seats, while the Mach-E offers this only on higher trim. Where the Mach-E lacks space and comfort, it makes up with cargo space. The Mach-E touts 29.7 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, which grows to 58.7 cubic feet with rear seats folded. The Ioniq 5 offers 27.2 cubic feet and 59.3 cubic feet, respectively.
Overall, the cabin design is comparable on both, as the Ioniq 5 and Mach-E do a great job using quality materials for an upscale and modern look.
Keep Connected With the Right Tech
Both models offer a comprehensive standard tech package. Drivers can enjoy the necessities, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, navigation, touchscreen infotainment systems, and more.
The Mach-E beats out the Hyundai Ioniq, however, as it features a beautiful 15.5-inch touch screen that beats out the 12.3-inch touch screen found in the Ioniq 5. The Mach-E also offers slightly more standard tech feature offerings than the Ioniq 5.
Warranty Coverage: Protecting Your SUVs
Hyundai offers one of the industry’s best factory coverage available. The Ioniq 5 is offered with a five-year/60,000-mile limited warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile battery and EV components warranty. The Mach-E, on the other hand, is offered with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty, and the battery pack and electric components have eight-year/100,000-mile protection.

Choose Your Sports Power
Both the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Mustang Mach-E deliver impressive electric power. The Ioniq 5 offers several power options that include a 58-kWh battery and 77.4-kWh battery which offer 168 and 225 horsepower, respectively, and a rear-wheel drive powertrain. There’s also an available 77.4-kWh battery with all-wheel drive that delivers 320 horsepower.
The Mach-E also features a range of power options, including a standard and extended-range battery available on select trims. Mach-E powertrains include options that deliver 266, 290, and 346 horsepower. In the GT and GT Performance Edition, drivers can enjoy a whopping 480 horsepower.
