Chevy Launches New Diesel Engine with the 2024 Silverado

Chevy Launches New Diesel Engine with the 2024 Silverado

The Chevy Silverado is set to turn heads yet again as it unveils its mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year. Chevy lovers and Silverado enthusiasts will be met with some welcomed upgrades, including an eye-catching paint palette, more power via a diesel engine, and several cabin upgrades that will enhance your overall experience. Before you visit your local Chevy Dealer, read on to learn about what you can expect.

Trendy Aesthetic Among Silverado Upgrades

Right off the bat, we’re talking about appearance. In released gallery images, drivers can take in the stark Lakeshore Blue and surreptitious Slate Grey Metallic colors that are introduced to the lineup for 2024. Our personal favorite, the Lakeshore Blue offers a really bold pop of color that nicely complements the power and performance of this pickup.

ZR2 Welcomes a Turbodeil Engine

The Hallmark change for the 2024 Chevy Silverado is the introduction of the ZR2’s 3.0 L inline 6 Duramax Turbo Diesel engine. A mouthful, yes, but rightly so. This powerful engine delivers impressive power to tackle even the roughest terrain (we’d hope so as the ZR2 is an off-roading beast). Producing 305 horsepower and delivering 495 lb-ft of torque, you’ll have plenty of power to tote around gear, push through shrubbery and rocky terrain, and so much more.

As far as powertrain changes go, this is the only change you’ll see with Silverado’s 2024 lineup. If you’re not yet ready for this power boost, you’ll still have the available 5.3 L V8 newly named ‘Turbo Max’ engine which delivers 355 horsepower, and the ZR2’s standard 6.2 L V8 which outputs an impressive 420 horsepower.

Designed for off-road exploration, the ZR2 diesel-powered trim might be the perfect fit for drivers who venture out on rough roads, or those who need a powerful workhorse they can count on.

Get Connected with Improved Tech

Throughout the Silverado as a whole, drivers can look forward to several comfort and tech upgrades as well. The Silverado will now add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as standard on the WT trim. Additionally, the Safety and WT Safety Packages will now include front and rear parking assist as well.

Other Changes to Expect with the 2024 Silverado

Other minor changes you may notice include design tweaks with enhanced front-end styling and an active dual exhaust available in the ZR2’s 6.2 L V8 model. There are some package shifts throughout the trim as well with the High Country trim now offering the Midnight Edition package which includes black power-retractable assist steps and modern-styled LED lighting. Adaptive cruise control will be included on the High Country trim while the Custom, Custom Trail Boss, RST, LT Trail Boss and ZR2 trims will now offer the Blackout Appearance package as well.

Bottom Line

While the Silverado’s upgrades are not overwhelmingly distinct, they do enhance and improve features the Silverado has done a great job with. The introduction of the ZR2’s Duramax turbo diesel engine is the hallmark change that will excite current Silverado enthusiasts and beckon in new ones.
