The next version of the Honda Civic Type R is coming, and it will be an impressive performance hatchback bringing power and fun to the track.
We’ve been waiting for the latest version of this hot hatch to see what it can offer and that will finally take place at the start of July in Ohio. The newest version of this car makes its debut at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for three days. This is an NTT IndyCar Series race where the Civic Type R shows us what it happens to offer.
A Strange Occurrence in the Reveal
The headlining race at the event is the Honda Indy 200, and it offers a massive presence at the track all weekend. This allows fans and racers to taste the new Type R and what it happens to provide. This isn’t the official unveiling we’ve been after the Honda will still wear camouflage as it races around the track. Honda will send it around the track for several laps, and then it will lead the racing field for the Indy race held on July 3.
Not the First Track Run, but the First in the US
The next version of the Honda Civic Type R will make its US debut at the start of July, but it’s made its way around the track in other places. This Type R test car has been on the Nürburgring. At Suzuka, where it set a new FWD record, surpassing, you guessed it, the previous version of the Civic Type R. This means we’ve seen plenty of testing models make it to tracks and locations around the globe. Still, the company hasn’t told us what’s running this car or how much power we can expect.
Find the Wild Child Already in the Market
If you don’t want to wait for the 2023 version of this Honda to arrive, you’ll have to look back a couple of years to find the car you want to drive. The Civic Type R high-performance model was last offered for the 2020 model year, and it skipped a couple of years before coming back. We aren’t sure exactly when this car will be provided to the public, but this performance car should be part of the market in the next few months.
Find a Pre-Owned Type R for Fun
Because the last time the Honda Civic Type R was offered was nearly three years ago, you probably won’t find a model that wasn’t sold yet. This means you’ll have to find a pre-owned model, but you can still enjoy the performance, fun, and drive of the 2020 version. This car delivers plenty of horsepower and lightning-quick reflexes. It has a six-speed manual transmission to keep you engaged with the road. You’ll love the polarizing hatchback body style, and the tech offered that keeps you safe and connected when you’re not racing around the track.
It’s Quick, and It’s a Honda
The fastest, sharpest, and most athlete Honda Civic you can buy is this high-performance model. Before the Type R arrived, many doubters wondered whether or not sending this much power to the front wheels would be a problem. Thankfully, it’s not an issue at all. To prove its performance, the last model of this car was tested hard on the Streets of Willow racetrack in Southern California, where it was pushed hard and showed that it could handle the drive with anyone behind the wheel.
Even the Cabin is Performance-Biased
Looking inside the Honda Civic Type R interior area, you’ll find a cabin filled with unique items and performance qualities that make driving right for you. You’ll see splashes of red around the cabin of this car, including on the seatbelts and trim items that make this car offer the look you desire. The excellent quality of the Type R is the serial-number plate which reminds you that this car is unique and a limited model. The large screen in front of you helps you connect to the infotainment system and provides a fantastic way to experience a tremendous drive.
A Lot is Happening With the Exterior Style
The Type R style has always been a bit of a question mark for this car. This car has impressive roofline nubs and a large wing to give you some wild elements that improve the aerodynamics of this fantastic car. The downforce delivers a tremendous feeling when you push this car hard on the track. The 2020 version has a slightly larger grille opening than the traditional Civic, and it has 20-inch alloy wheels to offer you the grip and performance you want to enjoy every time you drive.
What Are the Features of the Honda Civic Type R?
The Type R comes well equipped and ready for you to have the fun you desire out on any road—this track-ready performance car with Brembo brakes, a limited-slip differential, and an adaptive damper system. You’ll find the keyless entry, dual-zone climate controls, an auto-hold brake system, and a multi-angle rearview camera. The infotainment system has a 7-inch infotainment screen, a navigation system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 12-speaker/540-watt premium audio system. Honda Sensing offers you a full suite of driver-assistance systems to keep you safe on any road.
Fall in Love with the Power of the Type R
The 2020 Honda Civic Type R has a fantastic 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission with the driver-selectable rev-matching system. This powertrain delivers 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Even though you don’t buy this car for its fuel economy, it offers 22 city/28 hwy mpg.
Will you wait for the next version of the Type R coming in 2023, or will you look back a couple of years and let the 2020 version be the Civic Type R that you’ll love to drive every day?
