Maintenance Items You Need to Pay Attention To

Maintenance Items You Need to Pay Attention To

Cars of today don’t require as much maintenance or upkeep as those of many years ago. Considering the amount of computerization in cars of today, it would be nearly impossible for most of us to handle the challenge of maintenance in the vehicles that we own and enjoy on a regular basis.

Even so, you do need to pay attention to some items and take care of the maintenance to help your car run smoothly and deliver the most horsepower and the best fuel mileage for your drive.

Engine Air Filter

Your engine uses air and gasoline together to create the combustion that allows the vehicle to move. The engine air filter is used to filter out the dirt, dust, and other items that are sucked into the intake before the air travels to the engine. If the filter is clogged with dirt and debris it can’t allow air to flow as freely to the engine to give you the performance you need. Make sure you clean or replace your air filter on a regular basis.

Spark Plugs

You might not want to be bothered with installing new spark plugs into your vehicle, but it’s something you do need to pay attention to. If you choose to change the plugs yourself, you need to make sure they are the right ones and that you have the spacing needed to give you the performance desired.

Spark Plug Wires

When you change your spark plugs, you should also change out the plug wires. These wires are expected to deliver the charge to fire the plugs several times per second, which can wear on the wires and cause them to lose the ability to get the job done. Change out the wires and enjoy the benefits of an engine that runs smoothly.

Distributor Cap and Rotor

If you have a vehicle that uses a distributor, you need to check this item on a regular basis. The distributor delivers the electrical charge to the spark plugs through the spark plug wires. The rotor spins around in the distributor and carries the power while the cap is where the terminals are placed from the wires. With all the spinning around, these items can wear out.

PCV Valve

This valve sucks up the oil mist that’s churned up by your engine to reduce emissions. In the past, these oil mists were vented into the atmosphere, but the PCV valve brings it back in and allows the oil to be added back to the engine to reduce pollution. If this valve is clogged it can affect the ability of the car to run smoothly.

Cabin Air Filter

While this item won’t affect the way your car operates, it will help you have an easier time breathing in the cabin and allows you to have cleaner air in the space where you spend your time. Make sure this item isn’t clogged and replace it when you need it to ensure you can enjoy the ride.
