Looking Forward for the Porsche Macan

Will we see a new version of the Porsche Macan? While we know that every few years a new generation emerges for many of the models that we want to enjoy when its time for a drive, the Porsche Macan is a bit of an interesting vehicle. Right now, the Macan rides on a platform that was part of the previous generation of the Audi Q5. This is possible because both Porsche and Audi are part of the Volkswagen Group and share much of their technology. Even so, the Audi model has moved on to the MLB platform while the Porsche continues to ride on the same one.

Things Might be Changing for this Porsche

Recently, pictures emerged of a Porsche Macan that could have been out testing a new platform that might be what we see in the near future. While the Macan has received a mid-cycle update with a nip here and a tuck there, significant changes haven’t happened for this SUV yet. The fact that a new testing mule for this SUV was seen, is a good sign that we might see a new and improved model for the near future, but what Porsche has had to say can be a bit confusing.

The Confusion of the Macan

Not long ago, Porsche announced the next version o the Macan would be electric and not offered as a gasoline model at all. A year later, the brand changed its tune and informed us they would sell both a gasoline and an electric version of the Macan when the electric model was ready, but this wouldn’t take place until 2024. The electric version o the Macan is expected to be revealed in 2021, but will we see a new platform for this SUV? That’s the question that we don’t have an answer to just yet.

Possibilities for this Porsche

If Porsche does delete the gasoline-powered Macan from the lineup, there isn’t much incentive to offer a new platform and build this SUV out for only three years. However, if the gasoline model will continue and be offered alongside the Macan EV, a new platform would make perfect sense. Many of the brands under the Volkswagen Group umbrella have developed global platforms to use across a variety of models. Its time for Porsche to do the same and have a platform that can be shared between gasoline and electric models.

The Macan Keeps You Interested

When a small and sporty SUV is what you want and you’re ready to drive one that comes from the Porsche brand, the Macan is the SUV that offers you the drive you want. The future of what we will see in the Macan may be uncertain, but this SUV will continue to represent the Porsche brand the right way. Keep a watchful eye on what Porsche offers in the future and see if the electric model will be the one you drive or if there will be a new platform and an upgraded version of the gasoline model for you to drive.
