The World Car of the Year Contestants Are…

The World Car of the Year Contestants Are...

What’s the best vehicle in the world? That’s a question that’s asked and has to be answered on an annual basis.

The answer comes from a jury that’s put together to look at the new models offered and figure out which one gives us the right package of what we want for the drive. There are several different categories offered that are judged in order to find the winner of each class and decide the model that could be the right choice for the drive we want to enjoy on a daily basis in our areas.

The Panel is Assembled

There are 86 members of the jury that’s made up of international journalists who each cast their votes for the vehicles that are in consideration for the World Car of the Year Award. Each member will fill out a secret ballot based on their own evaluations of the vehicles on the list. These votes for the contestants in each category have been tallied at the Geneva Motor Show and we now know the vehicles that are being considered for each category. The final winners will be announced next month at the New York Auto Show.

The Person of the Year Selection

One award that doesn’t have to wait for consideration, votes, or until the show in New York is the award for the World Car Person of the Year. With a bit of a heavy heart and in honor and recognition of the accomplishments and the life spent in the automotive industry, the recently appointed President and CEO of FCA, Mike Manley, received this honor posthumously for Sergio Marchionne.

There’s no denying the late Sergio Marchionne was one of the most influential members of the automotive industry for a long time and his determination and grit have allowed FCA to make its way to the path of success that should continue for the next several years. Not considered a person of pomp or fuss, Marchionne was a leader that left a strong legacy for others to follow.

Which Vehicles Will Win?

We have no idea which vehicle will be the one that will be given the honor of being the World Car of the Year or which vehicles will be winners in each of the categories mentioned. Considering some of these models are ones that we see on the market in the US, just the fact that they are in the conversation might be enough to convince you that you should drive one of these models when you’re looking for your next new vehicle.
