Often we don’t see spy photos or hear about the new developments of vehicles until they are extremely close to being ready to be offered on the market. This has to do with when automakers want us to start to talk about the new models that will be offered and the length of time it takes to develop even the most basic of concept models as a prototype that can drive on the road. Recently, a new model was out in public wearing camouflage to give us an idea of what we might see in the near future.
The BMW X7 is expected to have some significant upgrades for the 2019 model year and this SUV has been out on the roads looking close to ready for production in Munich, Germany. While not far along in its development cycle, we can see quite a bit of what might be new for this large SUV to at least speculate what the vehicle will become. The signature grill is still in place, but many of the other exterior qualities of this large SUV have been changed and updated for us to enjoy the drive.
What’s New that We can See
The twin kidney grille up front that’s on clear display will be joined by a set of narrow LED headlights which make the front end look softer and luxury inspired for the drive. The side of the vehicle on the road looks flat and not different at all from the other crossovers in the BMW lineup. In the rear, the new X7 looks like it’s a restrained model that’s not different from the previous model with the exception of the large trapezoidal tailpipes which are impossible to ignore when you’re looking for the way the next large SUV will look.
When power was discussed, the X7 will be part of the BMW 7 Series lineup and has brought in the thought of a hybrid as the possible power you could enjoy. This might be the result of making use of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an electric motor to bring the power to 320 ponies for the drive. There should be an M Performance version of the X7 that will be offered and it will be dubbed as the M50i and receive the power of the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine for us to have a great drive and the increased power that we want to enjoy out on the road.
The new X7 has been developed alongside the new X5 and it will share a platform with this smaller BMW SUV model. Both of these vehicles will be built at the BMW plant in Spartanburg, SC to give us an SUV that comes from this luxury brand that’s built in the US. This new SUV is expected to be shown off at one of the shows later this year and be ready to go on sale in the early part of 2019 to be an SUV that can offer the drive desired.
