More Spy Shots of the New Ram 1500

Even though we know the new 2019 version of the Ram 1500 will usher in a new generation for this truck, we don’t expect there to be too many differences that will change this truck at all. This is one of the most powerful trucks already offered on the market to make it a truck that can get the job done for you that will bring in upgraded technology and a new look, but for the most part, this will still be a truck that can do truck stuff and be used on the job sites in your area.

If all you expect from the upgraded Ram truck is a new look, more power, and upgraded technology, there’s a good chance you’re either going to be surprised or shocked by what this truck will offer. As we see new spy shots that have been taken of the Ram 1500 as it has been testing on the roads there has been one unmistakable feature that’s been captured under the massive amount of camouflage this truck has been wearing during the drive. This is a feature that was hinted at in a filing nearly four years ago and now it’s surfaced.

The Mystery Feature

In 2014 FCA filed a patent filing for the tailgate of the Ram 1500 that was described as a tailgate that could split and swing to give easier access to the bed when you need to have half of the tailgate remaining in the up position. This item can allow access to one side of the bed while the other side remains in place to keep the gear and items you have in the bed secure and in place when you reach in and get what you need out of the bed.

When the patent was filed the vision we had was of a tailgate that would split down the middle and swing open for half of the bed to be accessible. Now that the testing mule has been seen with this swinging tailgate we see the application of this feature is to cut the tailgate more toward the right side to allow the center handle to remain in place when the entire tailgate needs to be dropped down and accessed while you’re on the roads or at the job site. One side of this tailgate will swing out to offer entrance to the bed for you, making it much easier to enjoy.

Thankfully, we don’t expect to continue to see the Ram 1500 with a ton of camouflage on the truck for the next several months. This truck is expected to make its debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit at the start of the new year. Until that time, we can enjoy the look and appeal of what this swinging gate will offer when it comes to the function and access that we’ve been looking for to make sure we can enjoy the way this truck works for us in the future.

Looking for something a little different? Opt for the Dodge Durango, a powerhouse SUV that’s perfect for the family.
