Hyundai is looking for as many ways as they can to offer us alternative choices when it comes to the vehicle we want to drive (just take a look at how Hyundai faces off with other vehicles in Hyundai Elantra vs. the Competition). We’ve already seen the new Ioniq offered on the market over the past couple of years, and now we are being graced with the new Kona which is offered as the latest electric model to offer us the range we want on the road. This vehicle can be considered a subcompact SUV or a large hatchback and it’s certainly an EV that should capture your attention and show you what it can do.
There will be two versions offered when the new Hyundai Kona makes its way to the market. These will be regular and large battery pack models with the standard battery offering 39.2 kWh attached to a 133 horsepower electric motor to give you a range of 186 miles from a full charge. This version of the Kona can reach speeds up to 104 mph, which simply means it’s comfortable on the highways, and it can charge to eighty percent in just under an hour to make sure you can keep on driving when you need to go farther during your daily ride.
The longer range model of the Kona Electric will make use of a 64 kWh battery pack which is attached to a 201 horsepower electric motor to bring you up to 292 miles of driving range. With this version, you can also reach a top speed of 104 mph to make sure this vehicle can be comfortable on the highway at the speeds posted and will charge to eighty percent in less than an hour when using a DC quick charging station. With this range, we now see a longer range than the other electrics offered on the market.
Take a Look Inside
When you sit behind the wheel you’ll see a large seven-inch digital gauge cluster that offers you the information you want regarding the battery and the motor. You’ll also see an impressive infotainment system that can provide you with the connectivity you need during a daily drive. You can choose black cloth and leather upholstery or pure leather for the ride you want in the seats that have several adjustments and the benefits of heating and ventilation. There is also an eight-speaker Krell audio system that’s standard to give you the musical sounds you’ve been looking for.
You’ll love the Hyundai SmartSense suite of active safety features which includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warnings, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alerts, and several other active safety features. This new vehicle is ready to give you the drive you want and help you avoid the range anxiety you might feel comes with an EV model for the drive. The new Hyundai Kona Electric joins a lineup of useful and impressive models that include the Sonata, Elantra, and Santa Fe that we love to drive on the roads around the country.
